Direct mail needs to be treated differently to any other piece of communication. We call it the ‘3 second trick’ When a person picks up your direct mail piece you have about 3 seconds to grab their attention. We all receive numerous pieces of direct mail every day and most gets thrown in the bin, however if you 'break the mould' with an attention grabber you are halfway there. This can be done with an intriguing headline, humour or an unusual picture. The copy should be kept short and to the point with clear guidance as to what the reader should do next.
